Lunar Eclipse

Time to get out the Pink Floyd albums.

Total Lunar Eclipse on May 15th starting @ 9:46pm EDT and lasting just over 3 hours. Really cool shit starts around 10pm. Naked eyes will see it alright, but a regular pair of binoculars will make it awesome.

If you have a telephoto lens, setup the tripod and take a few dozen pics. I'm going to set the Canon G3 to take 50-90 pics (1 every 2 minutes). No telephoto, but should still get some nice shots @ 4x.

I can't wait until Trevor's a little older, and I can justify blowing 1K on a telescope...

TRL

Not sure if Bob really wanted the Pearl Jam cover, or the actual Stone Temple Pilots version. But he asked for Pearl Jam, so that's what he gets.

Interstate Love Song - Pearl Jam

Now, where did put that GWB mask...

Exchange Hell

So, the message store unmounted itself around 12:45 this PM. So I re-mounted it. And a minute later, it unmounted itself. ???

So a quick peek at the application log showed the application log was full. So I cleared it. And mounted again. And then I got the error when it unmounted. The store had reached it's size limit. "Eh?", I thought. There is no size limit. Google quickly told me that the Standard Edition of Exchange has a 16GB limit. Only, I was under the impression I had installed the Enterprise Edition. Apparently, I was mistaken. :(

So the mail/calendar server that's been in production for two weeks now goes out in the middle of the day. And it will take a few hours to defrag the store to free up space. And it worked, took only 2.5 hours, got it back up around 4pm, 3 hours after I first noticed there was a problem.

To fix this, I need to install the right version. Which we need to buy. So we get our reseller on the horn, he shoots us a quote, we get the PO filled out and signed, and run down to the Purchasing chick to get it processed. Only, she left early. So we run up to see her backup. Only, she's sick today. So we can't get the order in until Wed. AM, and it takes 2 days to get the media to us thanks to Microsoft's anti-Piracy bullshit.

So I'm nursing this wounded beast along for a few days. Trimmed a GB off the size. Added a temporary GB to the limit via a registry hack. I'll hit up the heavy users to trim some fat, and defrag again tomorrow night.

I've lost a lot of fights in my time. But losing the anti-Exchange one is proving to be the most painful.

Camera is here!

My Canon G3 arrived today. I'm impressed with just how much this camera does. It's not small. But it's a real fucking camera. Closer to an SLR than a disposable. I'm very happy so far. 4 hours in. :)

Canon G3

Bought the Canon G3. Considered smaller form factors, but in the end the G3 was smaller than what we use now (Kodak DC3400) and just had more features than anything else I liked. Would have waited and done additional research, but wanted to have it before Easter, so needed to make the purchase today. Should be here early next week.

I've already put the 58mm lens converter and filter kit on my B-Day list. :)

Dig. Camera Suggestions?

I have ~$600 to spend on a new digital camera. Only reqs. are at least 4MP and plenty of options for lenses. I'm thinking the Canon G3 is the best option in this price range.

Any other suggestions?

Nice Bush Quote

In reference to this, which was eventually covered on ?>, this guy made this observation:

-------------------
After 9/11, Bush made two statements:
1. "Terrorists hate America because America is a land of freedom and opportunity."
2. "We intend to attack the root causes of terrorism."

Sounds like everything is going according to plan.
-------------------

Either I'm just in a good mood, or that is one of the best ?> comments I've ever read. I'll err on the side of hyperbole, but it's still a nice observation.

Hot Blooded

Got a call from Trevor's daycare on Wednesday saying his temp was 102 (which is too high) and we had to come get him. since Kristi doesn't have any time accrued after using it all up post partum, this meant that *I* had to go get him. Which, since this is the most important week of the most important project I will work on, proves that there is a God. And that he doesn't like me.

So Wednesday afternoon, all day yesterday, and half of today, I had to stay home with marginally ill Trevor. Not all bad, since I dig leisure. But it's put a great deal of pressure on my dept without me being there to deal with problems I should be dealing with. I'll spend most of this afternoon doing damage control.

Pity me.

Cool Pollen Benefit

The Rickster and I were out playing (bad) tennis the other day. Since Pollen covers everying, there was a thin layering on the court. The cool part was the ball would leave a mark (and plume of dust) wherever it landed. Just like playing on clay.

So I could tell which side of the baseline my serves were landing on. :)

Drug Hookup

As discussed earlier, Spring is here and the pollen is in the air. the only impact this has on me aside from the dust which covers everything, is the swelling and irritability of my eyelids. So I rub them all the time and they are bloodshot. Last year was the first time this affected me, and the iDoc gave me some Patanol drops, which worked very well.

Well this year, my neighbor works for one of those laser eye surgeons. So she hooked me up with some free sample goodness. I like free stuff.

I've been an Ass today

I'm sorry. It's not really your fault. You gave a spark, but I supplied all the fuel.
