The second time was a charm. Went perfectly smooth. The problem last time turned out to be a misconfiguration on the Windows 2000 DNS server (it wasn't accepting active registrations). But this time I confirmed everything was kosher, did more testing, and had a better backup in place. I was better prepared for failure, and therefore did not encounter any.
I danced a little happy dance in the data center. Good thing I did this off hours. My happy dance is not a pretty sight.
I'm still giddy. :)
