Preceding the passing of Ariel it was becoming clear that the Penguin Bio-Wheel 330 wasn't working well enough to support an Adult Oscar and messy Pleco. So we invested in an upgrade.
The Eheim 2026 belongs to the Professional II series. It is rated for tanks up to 90 US Gallons. (mine is 55g). Gunther Eheim was some German guy that invented canister filters. They have an outstanding reputation for the quality and effectiveness of their filters. The other options in this class are lacking in quality (the Fluval 404 for one.) Of course, quality means cost. And this wasn't cheap.
I got mine for $171 and change from Big Als Online. Easily the cheapest place around. That price includes filter media, so it's ~$30 higher than just the filter. The purchase was financed with my PERS refund from my University days.
