Week 2

I'm branching out considerably into the the non-tennis games in Wii Sports. I'm up around 1100 in Baseball, and 800 in golf after just a few rounds today. The golf is OK, but the swing isn't quite as consistent as the Tru-Swing on the PC version of Tiger Woods 06. Of course, it's only been one day playing with it. Best I shot over 9 holes was 35 (-1).

My tennis ranking is around 2100, but it's tough to move up, given I'm always playing Sarah and Elise, and they are both ranked lower than me. I won 3-0, but went to deuce in each game, and lost 10 points on my ranking. I need to basically shut them out in order to gain points.

I took pics of all my Miis. Check them out on Flickr.

Finally, 2000 points

it took 10 days, but i finally broke through the 2000 point barrier. I got really close on Monday, 1999 points. But I lost my next match and with it, 79 points. It took me 2 days to recover those points.

one thing that I'm not happy about is the lack of additional opponents when you get this high up. I keep playing the same two people. Ideally there would be some Wii Miis with higher ratings.

Tennis, end of Week 1

The last two days have been pretty good for Tennis. For some reason, I barely win, or lose to players ranked a lot lower. But I routinely beat or at least compete with higher ranked players. My rating had dropped to about 1050 from 1200+. But once they started giving me higher ranked competition, my ranking shot up, as the chart below shows. Just a few minutes ago, I lost 1-3 to a pair of ~1600 ranked players, and lost 37 points. I followed that up witha 3-0 win over a 1900 ranked team, and got rewarded with a 72 point bump. Not bad.

My forearm is certainly getting a workout. Hasn't been this tight since I was a teenager, and using it more than once a day. ;)

Even 4 year olds love Wii

I mentioned below how much Trevor likes the Wii Boxing. Here's a pic of him and his babysitter (Kristen) boxing last night:

Tennis Progress

Lost a few games to amateurs, but won a few more, then won back-to-back matches against superior talent (couple of 1200's then a couple of 1400s) to get my score not only back over 1100, but up over 1200. My win over the 1400's (3 games to 1) was worth 56 points!

Wii Fitness Age Day 6

I'd playeda few games of tennis, was in a decent groove, so I decided to take my fitness test this morning. Last time I did it in the AM, I ended up being over the hill. This time the results were much better.

Events were tennis returns (missed 3), Home Runs (hit 7), and Tennis Targets (got em all). I was shocked to see my age:

Day 5

didn't play much on Thursday. Boxed a few matches with Trevor (who kicked my ass once or twice). I think the key to doing well in Boxing is having a short Mii. it's hard to hit a short guy with jabs.

I played a few games of Tennis, and did not play well. Lost to couple of amateurs and took a big hit to my ranking, down below 1100. Then beat a couple of a amateurs 3 games to 1, and LOST 3 points. scoring gets kinda brutal when you're a Pro. I didn't take a fitness test, though. Did one this morning that I'll post separately about.

We bowled a lot, too. Trevor really likes the Power Throw training, so we did that quite a bit. This wii has been great for him. he really works up a sweat playing.

day 4

meant to post this last night, but decided to sleep instead. :)

Played a few games of tennis. Now that I'm playing opponents with rankings from 1200-1500, the rallies are much longer, and the games are much tighter. Much less room for error. I won maybe half the matches i played yesterday. dropped about 50 points before recovering to a net gain of ~10 points in my ranking.

Still working on getting the spin down. But I'm getting the hang of the swing timing/location relationship.

In much happier news, I took the fitness test around 10pm, instead of 8am, and did much better. Lowered to 31. This test was tennis returns (missed 4), Homeruns (5), and baseball location (2 white, 2 light blue, and one dark blue)

Day 3

After ~20 games of Tennis, I broke through to the Pro ranks today:

I'm getting the serve down a little better. hitting the ball at it's peak results in a power serve, that is difficult to return. I'm finding that if you hit it against 1200 and higher ranked players, they'll get a return that is difficult for you to get. At least in the first few games. Towards the end of a match, they have much weaker returns.

On a sad note, I did the Fitness test early this AM and aged 6 years. :( I'm convinced this was just a case of it being morning. I'm a night owl. I'm certainly not 40. :)

Pics of the Unvailing

Finally got around to uploading pics of the unboxing. The Out of Box Experience is pretty average.

This is what comes in the box. (The extra nunchuck and Controller were additional purchases)

And here a good pic to show you the size. That's a regular sized CD case next to it.

And here is what it looks like "installed":

Got Wii, and a sore shoulder

Went by Cicuit City yesterday and was 9th in line to get one of 15 vouchers to buy Nintendo Wii. Got it setup, and got perhaps 10 matches of tennis in (5 game matches). I'm getting close to pro level, which ain't bad for a few hours. :)

Also played around with the Bowling and the Boxing. The Boxing took me back to the Punchout! days. The bowling is pretty good. It's AWESOME that you can hook the ball with the same wrist movements. And you can also miss with the same bad wrist turning habits. But this is certainly good practice for the real thing.

I did the Wii fitness age one time, and got an age of 34. Since i'll be 34 in 5 weeks, that's not insulting. :)

I'll get some pictures up later of the OBE. Impressed with how small the box is. I'll definitely be carrying this around with me when I travel.
