Shoes

I needed new shoes. My tennis shoes were getting pretty worn, and I also needed some running shoes for the hour or two a month I spend on a treadmill. I had my eyes set on getting some Nike Air Resolve for tennis, and either the Air Moto or Air Pegasus 2004. I'm not running a lot, or really much at all, so spending more than $80 would be a waste.

So I head on over to Crossroads to check out Dick's. They didn't have the Air Resolve Low Cut, just the mids. And after checking out the Pegasus (they didn't have the Moto) didn't really feel like spending money on them. But I found some other shoes I liked a lot. The New Balance 652 and 807. (in blue/grey). Trouble was, that Dick's didn't have my sizes (9 2E or 9.5 2E). So I went down the shopping center to Footaction to see if they did. And dear god, did that store suck. I guess if you wanted basketball shoes, it'd be heaven. But not a single tennis shoe.

So, it was off to Glenwood Ave and the New Balance Store. And of course, THEY had my sizes. Well, one of them anyway. Ended up costing about 15 bucks more than Dick's woulda, but that's the price I pay for having an average foot.

There is a God

Tennis, very frustrating. Getting a lot of serves in, but somewhere along the line I completely lost my ability to control my raquet on forehands and, well, backhands too. Serves are a great deal more consistant, but I'm following them up with sad attempts at winners. It'll come, I hope. Pretty frustrating getting there. I lobbed well, at least.

But the reason I have seen the Light™ is that I finally found a Bayesian spam filter for MT. Of course, this was the first I'd looked for it, and not just complained about how nice it would be to have. :)

Even ignoring the Magic of Bayesian statistical analysis, the plugin allows you to view all of your comments on a single page, one thing MT-Blacklist lacked. That alone allowed to remove 500 comments that MT-Blacklist would time-out trying to get. I suggest everyone who has a spam problem that MT Blacklist isn't taking good enough care of install this. Just be careful and mark your old, non-spam comments as non-spam. It's Bayesian, so it needs to be trained And you'd hate to delete the stuff that sorta matters.

Again, Thank you Oh Lord, and bless your disciple.

Charley

Well, this hurricane didn't hit us here in Apex. We got a bit of rain because of it, but not a lot. We had a stalled front following Charley that has dumped a few inches on us. But all in all, no problems.

Keith and Colleen, long-time friends of ours that live in O-Town, were pretty lucky too. They didn't sustain any substanative damage. Their parents were also fortunate to avoid having to deal with an insurance agent. They took a lot of pictures during, after, the day after, and even lounging in the sun by the pool. Even when we try to look down on them for living in a dangerous part of the country, they don't waste the chance to show how great things are the other 96% of the time. Pricks.

One more reason to Hate Disney

I read on ArsTechnica that the copyright holders of This Land is Your Land have threatened legal action against JibJab, makers of a very amusing Flash animation satirizing W and JFK v2.0, for what they believe to be a violation of their copyright. Now it seems that they have case, since Satire is not protected as Parody is. Ars discusses this in the link above. Too bad that someone still owns a copyright on this song that is now 64 years old and 27 years after the originator has died.

Thank you Disney! Wait, I mean, Fuck You, Disney.

Since this is my favorite Pro America song, I'll violate a copyright and post it verbatim, sans approval from the copyright holder with my favorite parts highlighted.

This land is your land, This land is my land,
From California,To the New York Island,
From the redwood forest, To the Gulf stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking, That ribbon of highway,
I saw above me, That endless skyway,
I saw below me, That golden valley.
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled, And I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

The sun comes shining, As I was strolling
The wheat fields waving, And the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

As I was walkin', I saw a sign there
And that sign said no trespassin'
But on the other side, It didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

In the squares of the city, In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office, I see my people
And some are grumblin', And some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking, That freedom highway
Nobody living, can make me turn back
This land was made for you and me

Gmail pisses me off

How do you sort Gmail messages?

From:
Gmail FAQ

Sorting is by date. In Gmail, messages are already grouped by subject. You
can't change the sort order, but you won't have to because with advanced search, you can quickly find all messages from a particular person, group, or mailing list.

Now, fuck you gmail. Don't presume the only reason I would sort by name is to find a person or group of messages. I sort by name primarily to delete messages en masse from my inbox. As a good deal of my gmail is blog spam, it would take me %1000 longer to acomplish this task by searching instead of sorting. Fuckers.

It's not your place to decide how people use their email, and it's certainly not your place to presume a decent search feature eliminates the need for a basic sort functionality. to be sure, every email client I've used int he past decade has had a pretty good search feature, yet I still use sort a ton. tout your search if you wish, but don't force feed it by eliminating a basic feature. Yahoo! doesn't presume to know so much about what I do that it removes basic features.
