Speaking of books I need to burn...

What the hell happened to Dennis Miller? When did he go from a guy that could rage against the machine to being part #3498584500228482111-GH in said machine?

He's not even making sense in his analogies now. Comparing Howard Dean to Neville Chamberlin? Nevermind that Chamberlin's policy probably had a lot to do with Germany ultimately being defeated. But Iraq was nothing like 1930's Germany. It's stupid on it's face. But he still said it. Maybe he was just playing to the crowd at a Bush fundraiser.

Bruce Almighty

Went to the movies last night. Saw Bruce Almighty (only comprimise The Sultry One and I could come to). It was pretty good. Funny (though many times I was the only one laughing...), with a good story. Not something you want to think too much about. But a very good way to spend 1:38 of leisure. The jokes alone are worth it.

One thing that really, really, pissed me off about the experience was the fucking commercials before the movie. I never missed my Tivo more than I did for those 10 minutes. I need to develop a pocket-sized projector so I can project a nice image on the wall of the theater that says "I did not pay 8 bucks to be advertised to." Or insist I be compensated. It's one thing when the ads pay for the shows on TV. I'm cool with that. But my ticket pays for the movies.

Just because I'm sitting in a room waiting for something, does not mean I need to be inundated with advertisements. Stupid marketing fucks...

Chicks dig Chicks

Man, did I ever go to the wrong college...

Northwestern Univeristy psychologists conducted an experiment to determine if people were turned on by erotic images of men&men, women&women, and men&woman. they found that women (both straight and lesbian) were stimulated by any combination whereas men got chub only watching women (straight men) or only men&men (Gay men).

The details of how the study was conducted are at least as interesting as the results. Since this talks about sex in explicit terms, Big Brother may not approve. Click with caution. Alas, there are no images...

Down with IE

I use Windows. A lot. While I would never use IE on a Mac, I'm just now coming over to the Mozilla camp on Windows.

And the reason is simple. I'm pragmatic, more than anything else ('cept being lazy). If it works well, I'll use it. And for a long time, IE worked well. Sure it pissed off a few code whores with it's unusual interpretation of various languages. But most everything worked with it.

But now...it's slow. It pisses me off more than it works. So I updated Mozilla to 1.3.1 a few days/weeks ago. And I'm using that exclusively now. It rocks. It's faster. A lot faster. And it loads just about every page I use 2-3 times faster than IE. Java is far more stable. Style Sheets work (big deal, since half my surfing is on blogs). Even the MS KnowledgeBase works better.

Fuck IE. Make sweet love to Mozilla.

Rock beats Scissors

And machine guns beat rocks.

My first thoughts upon hearing Iraqi protesters were throwing rocks at soldiers, who returned the favor with gunfire, was "I can't wait until Neil Young wirtes a song about this."

Followed by: "I bet they were throwing rocks at members of the Ohio National Guard".

And last, but not least: "Where is my towel?"

Know someone that went to BGSU?

Then see if they've ever been busted. :)

Search BG Court Records

To make things simple, here's my single appearence. It was the first chance I'd had to open up the Grand Am on a straight uninhabited stretch of rural road. I got up to ~90 before I saw headlights up in the distance and slowed down.

The headlights belonged to a Wood County Sheriff's deputy. He clocked me @ 73, but lowered the ticket to 64 so he didn't have to go to court. I think it cost me $89, plus however many hundreds my insurance went up.

So don't speed too much, kids. The ticket won't be bad, but the insurance company doesn't use any lube.

Impeachment?

It's no big secret that I have never thought highly of the President as an individual. And I've always viewed the principles in his administration with great suspicion. So the idea tha they lied about WMD in Iraq never supised me. And I never really considered the real impact of those claims beyond the purely political (how the people reacted).

Well, it seems there is good reason for them to be a little worried about all this. If it can be shown that the White House intentionally misled Congress to win support for a war, it would be a "High Crime" in addition to being a felony. Now, to a group so protective of their power, this is incredibly high stakes gambling.

John Dean, noted pinko-liberal*, covered this in more detail @ Findlaw last week. Go give that a good read. It's worth it.

*sarcasm. He was Nixon's lawyer.

Infection Beats Levaquin, Reinforcements called in

Pulling a huge upset, the microbial phenoms known collectively as "The Sinus Infection that is plauging Dan" survived a 14-day battle with Levaquin. I, for one, underestimated them.

Levaquin, for anyone led here by Google, sucked. I will not take it again. The side effects sucked. I was fatigued for the duration of my 14 day stay. I ached. I was generally miserable. If it is prescribed to you, tell your Doctor you don't want it, and to give you something else.

After I finished my 14 day course of Levaquin on a Thursday, Friday morning found me with a swollen throat. Friday with pain in my ears. And Saturday with pressure growing in my sinuses. On Monday, accepting defeat, I went back to the (fake?) doctor. She was suprised that the Levaquin did not kick the shit out of the microbial fucks (in so many words..). So she whipped out the prescription pad again.

This time? Tequin. Nasonex (nasal spray) and a de-congestant. Now, Tequin is similar to Levaquin. So I expected to feel just as miserable this week. But I was pleasently suprised to find I feel much better. None of the psychosamatic respones that I had to Levaquin. I don't know yet if it will work, but at the very least I won't feel like shit while it fails.

Rare Work Plug

I don't often talk about work (or at least, WHERE I work) but we got some pretty good news today.

We aren't being de-listed.

This was a pretty big monkey on our backs, so it's nice to have it off. The stock is doing well, reletively speaking. Jeremy, at least, has his PDGM investments back in the black.

Unlike Derek and his assorted Pits of Despair, I kinda dig working where I do. On many levels, I really enjoy it. I don't imagine I'll ever have a better job. And not since 14 of us shared a PC-filled closet in Hayes Hall have I enjoyed the people I work with and for more.

So it's nice to see that "here" has an ever-increasing chance at being here for the long-term.
