Job Interview

I have a job interview today. I helped write the job description, so I like my chances. :)

I'm flattered

Seems I wasn't the only one to whom Wellstone's death rose a few flags. Those kooks @ Alternet posted the same thing around 3 this afternoon. I'd say he copied from me, but his is much better. He gives examples and everything. Like it was homework or something.

I feel better. Or worse. Not sure.

Funny Catholics

So i follow the link on this Yahoo News story about Halloween to the AmericanCatholic.org website with more Halloween info. And I'm struck by the very clever search feature:

"St. Anthony, help me find:"

Hilarious.

Election Fraud

Anyone else excited to see the reports of voter fraud and irregularities coming from anything that even seems like a close contest? I think more than a few State Supreme Courts are gonna be busy in the days and weeks following the election.

I'm hoping for more nonsense coming out of FLA involving Jeb. And Mizzou, which was criminal in it's intimidation of blacks in STL, will surely be hotly contested int he Courts, no matter who wins.

Add to this a requirement in Louisiana that the winner must get %50 or better of the votes, and you have even more fun. The leading candidate is polling in the mid 40s. That's much better than #2, but there are four candidates, and she's not likely to get the %50. So there will be a run-off election. That will take another month, and control of the Senate could hinge on it.

Consider that something less than %40 of eligable voters will actually vote, and you have a rather nice commentary on Democracy in Action. The will of %20 of the voters in one state could determine control of the Senate for two years. Amazing.

Wellstone murdered?

I got to thinking while plugging my bloody nose with tissue this AM. Consider how important it is to the "Shadow" government that the GOP regains control of the Senate. Add to that Sen. Wellstone's vocal opposition to the Bush Admin, and you make for a guy many would rather see dead.

Now, there is no evidence that suggests this. It's purely foundationless conjecture. But there's just something about small planes carrying "Shadow" adversaries crashing in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason (with no blackbox or cvr) that raises a red flag on my CIA-o-meter.

Price is Right Thoughts

While spending the last 5 days hanging out in rooms 237 and 224 of Rex Hospital, I had the rare (for me) chance to watch daytime television. One of the shows I always loved was The Price is Right. The contestants were always worth making fun of. And some of the games are actually fun to play along with.

Well, this is without question THE best gameshow on daytime TV. Arguably ever. As one of the highest rated shows on Daytime for the span of my lifetime, they have a LOT of money. Being well funded, they also tend to be the most professionally produced gameshow. After 30 years, they know what they are doing, and do it well.

And that is why I was just dumbfounded by what I saw. On three different occasions, the outcome of a game was determined by production errors. The first time, the correct placement for the objects was lit up too soon, before the game was over. Another time, the timer went off with 5 seconds left. Yet another game was marred by technical problems.

Were it not for the severly overweight woman squeezing a frail old man near death and saucy co-eds with clever phrases on their 3-sizes too small t-shirts, my faith in the show may have been tested.

Run

Mark, the guy that lives on the other side of the highway from me, has an excellent post about running. Go read it.

What he fails to mention are blisters. And aches. Knees not bending so well in the morning. Back pains. Shin splints. 3AM Leg cramps. Rain. Colds. Hostile drivers. Dogs. Chaffing.

Of course, by that time, it's too late. You are a runner. You no longer need to watch the weather. Your knees will forcast it for you. Congrats.

Me? I'll rest my Runners World upon my belly as I lounge in my recliner. And laugh. A hearty belly laugh.

Hockey

NHL pre-season* starts tonight. The home team is on ESPN @ 7:30 EST playing the NY Ranger$. As the only seats left as of last month required a Sherpa guide to get to, I will not be in attendence. :(

NY is said to be the early favorite to lose int eh Finals. Which makes this a compelling game. Eric Cole (of "made Scott Stevens look like a little girl" fame) is playing with Oneill and Francis while Sami is hurt. So it will be a bit before the BBC line gets back together. An interesting idea arose when Coach talked about Francis, Cole and Sami on the same line. The KFC line.

Maybe you had to be there.

* I say this b/c the real season doesn't start until the playoffs.

Trammell to Coach Tigers

First the Yankees get eliminated, and now Alan Trammell, icon of my childhood, is going to be the new manager of the Detwa Tigers. Combined, these facts serve to demonstrate the existance of an invloved supernatural being more than anything else.

What Muppet are you?

You are Kermit!
Though you're technically the star, you're pretty mellow and don't mind letting others share the spotlight. You are also something of a dreamer.

Fun with Semantics

Joe Woodring, author of this op-ed, has taken issue with my repsonse, which can be found in the comments section of the aforementioned op-ed. Instead of responding in the comments section, thus adding to the content of the BG News website, joe came here. He posted a comment on my earlier post concerning the Cobb County nonsense.

I'll start a new thread, since this is not really about Cobb County, but rather Joe's failures as a writer.

Joe, you said this: "Evolution, like creation is nothing more than theory. "

That is a blatently false statement.

That you would write it indicates you have no idea what is meant by the "Theory" part of the "Theory of Evolution". It is NOT just some idea. It is a comprehensive framework for understanding how Nature works. Some of what falls under its umbrella is untested conjecture. The parts that are, are clearly presented as such. But other parts, like natural selection, have been demonstrated TENS OF THOUSANDS of times. It was built up from observation, from testing, from 150 years of testing and refining.

Creationism, OTH, lacks any such merit. It is a story written in a book. There is nothing observable that would lead one to the conclusions presented in the Bible. It most certainly is NOT a theory. I'm willing to listen, though, if you can show me it is.

Now, on to your reaction:

Your senseless ramblings are going to confuse somebody so you better get your facts straight.

Please do point out the ramblings that lack sense.

Evolution is not a fully proven theory. Gravity is, my friend.

Further evidence of your incompetence wrt science. Gravity is not "fully proven". Nothing in Science is. If a better explanation for the data and phenomenon comes along, Gravity will be relegated to the likes of Alchemy and Astology. As for Evolution, it is a Theory. That is why they call it the "Theory of Evolution". Were it as simple as gravity to test, they'd feel better about calling it a Law. But even then, a Law is still just a theory.

As an athiest who feels there is too much religion in our government already, your writings are giving our beliefs and our cause a bad name.

I see you lack focus, too. What you believe is immaterial. I don't care. Not in the least. I only ask that when you share your opinion, you make an effort to base it on some sense of Truth. No matter how briliant one's logic may be, if they start from a false axiom, they are still wrong.

Please learn about both sides of Creation and Evolution before attempting to write about them. It's "kinda" annoying.

I don't consider them to be "both" sides. I think they altogether different. One is based entirely on an illogical story in a mistranslated book. The other on over a century of data collection and experimentation. That you would equate the two isn't annoying. It's wrong.

No Naked Bitches on WW!

It's not like I just watched the West Wing last night becuase of this, but I was told that the Bare Naked Bitches would be performing (along with Amy Mann). I love them bitches. And I was kinda pissed when I didn't get to see them.

I suspect they realized having a Canadian band on to support an American election didn't seem all that kosher.

At least watching the Yankees lose made me feel better. :P

Superfun Flash Game

This is far too much fun. Shoot this penguin back to his spaceship, taking into account the gravity of various celestial bodies placed in your way. My top score so far is 455,212. That's on my third game, and I double my previous best. The High Score part isn't working.

Kazoo

I have a Kazoo at my desk from a party here at work a few weeks ago. It's just been sitting there next to my empty Mountain Dew cans since. So I picked it up a half hour ago, and have been making airplane sounds since. I sometimes make mosquito sounds, for a change of pace.

I honestly do not think I can have more fun than I currently am.
